Last year we began Learn AAC at Home to fill a gap we saw in literacy instruction for AAC users. In our first year, we supported learners as young as six and as old as young adults in their 30s. Our program evolved over the year and we loved seeing our students make progress with literacy and communication! Our students' successes have inspired us to continue on this journey!
We offer classes for young children and for teens/ adults. You are never too old to begin! Our daily classes are meant to provide a foundation for literacy instruction that you can continue outside of class! Every day we work on phonics, knowledge building through read-alouds, vocabulary, and writing.
If you are interested in learning more about how to support your learner's (ages 4 years +) high-tech AAC system use and literacy skills at home while connecting with other families, then you're in the right place! Join our virtual caregiver-AAC user classes where we are all readers, writers, and communicators!
These classes, facilitated by speech-language pathologists, Amanda Soper, M.S., M.S., CCC-SLP, TVI, and Jillian Frankel, M.S., CFY-SLP, harness the power of caregiver coaching to improve your AAC learner's literacy and communication skills while building community and having fun!

Language and Literacy Virtual Homeschool Program
If your AAC user is showing ANY level of enjoyment during shared reading and
ANY interest in letters/print/sounds, then they are ready for our classes! Our classes are for literacy learners at all stages.

At this time, we use Amplify's Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum
for knowledge and language building and the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) Foundations curriculum for phonics instruction. We include phonics, literacy/language building, and writing in each daily class.

The fee for the course is $175/wk for 5 50-minute classes.
*This class is intended to be taken daily. While we understand life happens and you may miss a class here or there, we bill per week, and don't encourage students to sign up if they are unable to regularly attend.

This fall, our courses will be offered for 17 weeks, running September 9, 2024
through January 31, 2025 with three breaks (i.e., October 14-18, November 25-29, December 23-January 3). Prior to our fall start, each caregiver-AAC user pair participating in our homeschool programming will be scheduled 1:1 with an instructor for an introduction and baseline testing.

It is anticipated that our elementary aged students will be meeting from 12:30-1:30PM Monday through Friday and our Teens and Adult class will meet 1:30-2:30PM Monday through Friday. All times are listed in Eastern Standard Time (EST).
****This is subject to change based on enrollees and if there is a need for students
in a particular age group to be split based on phonics instructional level.****

A one hour baseline testing session is required to determine what supports your
learner needs! The session will cost $100 for the hour. During this time, we will look at pre-reading and writing skills, letter-sound correspondence, phonemic awareness, phonics, and grammar using testing measures adapted for non-speaking children. A one-page snapshot of your learner's current literacy skills will be provided. If more comprehensive baseline testing is desired, please let us know and we can discuss options.

Click the link below to enroll. You will receive access to our calendar to sign up for a one hour baseline testing session with one of the instructors (Amanda or Jillian).
